The village Telgart is 891 m over the sea level below the pass Besnik where the long Hron Valley comes to an end. It is ideal starting point. Closly around are 5 different mountain ranges. The region dominated by the Kralova hola (1998 m), the highest peak in the eastern part of the Low Tatras. Southwest is Muranska Planina National Park with his gorgeos meadows, 200 - 600 m high rock cliffs and steep kalk rock formations. In the south are mountains Stolické Hills with its highest peak Stolica (1480). In the east is hiddedn the National Park Slovak Paradise. And between these two mountain ranges begins the mighty Ox mountains (Volovske Hills). Sorroundings of the village Telgart formy rich meadows, mild disposals and meanders of the river Hron. The village was burned down in 1944 and after the worldwar II rebuilt.
ITENERARY:
Sunday: Arrival in Telgart. Presentation of the tour program.
Monday: Volovske Hills - 1st stage . A comfortable stretch with little altitude differences. Start of at Pension Hanka . With nearby ski lift on Trstenik ( 1298 m). Wonderful desccend the hut Cuntava . Then gently throught on the crest of the Ox mountains ( 11km) . Before the summit Dobšinský Kopec ( 927 m ) is again downhill to meadows in Palcmanska Masa and continue along the river Hnilec to Mlynky. From village Mlynky by rail to Telgart. 18 km and 285 meters. Aklimatisationstour.
Tuesday: By Muranplateau . Very interesting tour of scenic tour form hunting lodge to hunting lodge. First by bus to saddle Javorinka (13 km). From there, mostly down, slightly changing forests and meadows, passing farm and hunting lodge with name Tinka . A longer ascent brings us to ice pit (1131 m), where is the half of the tour. The way followed by winds in the forest, on a long riidge in altitudes between 1,060 m and 1,180 m. The finish line is in place Cervena Skala ( 824 m). From here return by railway to Telgart (9 miles). In total 25 km, 475 altitude meters.
Wednesday: Kralova hola (1997 m) - Summit tour. We begin the long ascend directly in Telgart village. We enjoy the beautiful scenery of the summit. From the summit we continue on the ridge to village Polomka ( back by bus ) or immediately turn to Sumiac and from there through meadows to Telgart ( round trip ). In total 1066 altitude meters.
Thursday: Volovske Hills - 2 Stage . With first railroad to Rakovec ( 740 m) . From up here around Babina mountain ( 1277 m ) on Sulova saddle (910 m). Then on the hilly ridge to the summit of the mountain Dobšinský Kopec ( 921 m). A pleasant descent brings us to Mlynky . Back by railways. 20 km and a altitudediffrence of 505 meters.
Friday: Stolica ( 1476 m ) We go for second time to the saddle Javorinka. Our trail leads to the east, this time to the highest mountain of the Slovak Ore Mountains. From the summit, continue along the ridge to the saddle Siroke pole ( 655 m). From there, exit to the village of Slane Vysne ( 453 m). Return by bus . 21 km and 615 altitude meters.
Saturday: Slovak Paradise. First by train to Dedinky . Here we cross the dam watterfront Palcmanska Masa. Then, through the village and the small slope to canyon Zajmanska. Walking up some ladders. Rest at the hut Geravy . Then continue on the Glatzweg - ideall cross-country trek, without ascends. Our last stop is the village Stratena. Back to the railroad. 20 km and a altitudedifference of 415 meters.
Sunday: Departure home.
Requirements: good sport condition, previous experience with cross-country skiiing
Equipment: Cross-country or back-country ski, backcountry ski-boots, ski poles, ski skins, thermo bottle, headlamp, thermo-clothing.
Minimum: 5 People.
